They find a lamp with the same wattage and length, pop it in, and wonder why their glass is still bowing or stressing. Here’s the thing: it’s not just about the temperature. Shortwave IR digs deep into the glass, while medium-wave is your best bet for stabilizing the surface. If you pick the wrong wavelength for your glass thickness, you end up with a temperature gap between the core and the surface. That’s where the internal stress comes from. And that’s why relying on a spec sheet usually fails. Sure, you can order a lamp with the exact voltage and wattage of the old one. But that doesn’t account for a reflector that’s seen better days or heating banks that have shifted over time. Even a tiny tilt in the mounting can move the focal point of the heat.
