Here is the struggle we face when designing bathroom heaters: you need a serious amount of heat to fight off the damp chill, but nobody wants to feel like they’re being interrogated by a spotlight. Especially when you’re drying off a baby or helping an elderly parent, the last thing you need is a blinding flash of light. The light problem Most basic infrared lamps just blast energy across the board, which gives you that harsh, yellow-white glow that makes you squint. We don’t do that. Instead, we use a specific kind of doped quartz glass and tweak the filament temperature. It basically filters out the aggressive light that strains your eyes. You still feel that deep, cozy warmth on your skin, but your eyes can actually relax. Built for the steam Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. To stop the lamps from popping the second they hit a cloud of steam, we seal the quartz envelopes tight. If even a tiny bit of moisture touches that tungsten filament, it’s game over. We also use gold or polished aluminum reflectors. This isn’t just for looks—it pushes the heat straight down toward you, rather than letting it waste away by heating up your ceiling. The honest trade-off Look, physics is a stubborn thing. When you filter out the harsh light to make the lamp easier on the eyes, you lose a little bit of that raw thermal punch. To make up for it, we bump up the wattage. You’ll usually see these running between 400W and 600W. It’s a simple swap: a bit more power for a lot more comfort. A quick tip on setup Don’t just plug these into any old outlet. Put them on their own dedicated circuit. Since you’re dealing with water and electricity, make sure your GFCI is rated for the full load. It saves you from the annoyance of the power tripping every time you turn the heat up.
