Why You Can’t Cut Corners with Quartz in Your Bathroom
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are the worst place for electronics. You’ve got steam everywhere, high humidity, and those annoying temperature swings that happen the second you step out of the shower. If you’re putting in infrared heaters, you have to use explosion-proof quartz tubes. Period. Why? Because standard glass just can’t handle the shock. Imagine a tiny, cold water droplet hitting a surface that’s 600°C. It’s a recipe for disaster. Here is what actually happens. When that drop hits a hot tube, it creates a sudden “cold spot.” The material shrinks unevenly and—pop—cheap tubes just shatter. It’s messy and dangerous. We use explosion-proof quartz, usually with a protective mesh or a special coating, so that doesn’t happen. Even if the internal filament gives out, the tube stays in one piece. The last thing you want is glass shards flying around while you’re trying to dry off. The “Instant Warmth” Factor We go with short-wave infrared technology here. The cool thing about short-wave is that it doesn’t waste time heating up the air in the room. Instead, it hits your skin and the surfaces around you directly. It feels like stepping into a beam of sunlight. The quartz is there to make sure that heat gets through efficiently without the tube warping or breaking down. But a quick heads-up: check your wiring. These lamps pull a lot of power the moment they kick in to get up to temperature. If your circuit is old or under-rated, you’re going to be tripping your breaker every single morning. Not a great way to start the day. A Few Tips for Installation If you’re swapping out old halogen systems, these usually drop right in. But don’t just jam them in there. Airflow is everything. Even though the quartz won’t explode, the rest of the unit still gets seriously hot. If you mount it too close to plastic trim or something flammable, you’ll start seeing things warp or melt over time. Give it some breathing room—at least 15cm away from any wall fixtures. It keeps the enclosure cool and keeps your bathroom safe.
